Snowzilla Bids Goodbye

Snowzilla is no more.  The two-story high snowman who has graced the Power’s yard has been given a “stop work” order by the city of Anchorage in Alaska, calling the giant snowman a “public nuisance and safety hazard”.

The tradition was started by Billy Powers and his children three years ago.  They collected snow from their neighborhood to add height and breadth to the snowman.  Snowzilla has a corncob pipe, two beerbottlesfor eyes and a carrot nose. The snowman became a favorite for russian photographers and Japanese tourists.  Many people have stopped and posed for photos on the Powers’ yard.

As the years went by, the snowman grew in heigh and breadtht but not everybody liked then visitors, the cars and the traffic they caused in the neighborhood.  A few weeks ago a notice was tacked on the snowman’s body and on the Powers’ door.  City officials said that the snowman caused traffic and was unsafe.

Today, Snowzilla is just a pile of snow rubble.  Powers said he has no plans of rebuilding the snowman.
