The US Air Force on Tuesday confirmed for the first time that it is flying a stealth unmanned aircraft known as the “Beast of Kandahar,” a drone spotted in photos and shrouded in secrecy.
Aviation experts dubbed the drone the “Beast of Kandahar” after photographs emerged earlier this year showing the mysterious aircraft in southern Afghanistan in 2007. The image suggested a drone with a radar-evading stealth-like design, resembling a smaller version of a B-2 bomber.
The air force said the aircraft came out of Lockheed Martin’s “Skunk Works,” also known as Advanced Development Programs, in California – the home of sophisticated and often secret defense projects including the U-2 spy plane, the F-22 fighter jet and the F-117 Nighthawk.
Robots or “unmanned systems” in the air and on the ground are now deployed by the thousands in Iraq and Afghanistan, spying from the sky for hours on end, searching for booby-traps and firing lethal missiles without putting US soldiers at risk.

It was announced this morning by the police that a Seattle police officer checking on a stolen car in Seattle, shot and killed suspected Lakewood cop killer Maurice Clemons.
The shooting in the Tacoma area ended a two-day manhunt here where four Lakewood police officers were ambushed in a coffee shop after ex-con Clemons fled the Sunday morning Pierce country crime scene.
Although Clemons was armed with a gun, the unidentified lone arresting officer was not hurt in the Rainier Valley incident, and police said that he took from one of the dead officers Sunday, but was unable to get it out in time. Ever since, Clemons had been considered a danger to cops.
An SPD officer was on a routine patrol when he saw a car with the hood up and also the engine running. He run the licence plate and came to a conclusion that the car was stolen, that is according to the Seattle Police Chief Jim Pugel. And it was reported stolen at 12:45 am. Maurice Clemons was approaching the officer’s patrol car on the driver’s side when the officer noticed him and commanded him to show his hands, that is according to the investigators.
Pierce County spokesman Ed Troyer said that more arrests may be coming.
