Twitter has been hacked

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Lately, it seems that social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook have been receiving viruses directly to its members. It was said that this Friday at 10 pm, that the Twitter site was hacked and defaced.

Twitter.com is said to be down. Some tweets are getting through at the moment because parts of the API are up. The search seems to be working. It is suggested that if you use the same password on your twitter account with other accounts, now would be a good time to change your password on those other accounts.

It was said that there is a history between Iran and Twitter. It was well noted and covered in the media that Twitter was used as a tool during the Iranian election protests. The US government actually intervened to assure that Twitter was available to the protestors in Tehran and around the country. This attack maybe an act of reprisal from groups who were not happy with the role that Twitter played during the protests.

But then, luckily that Twitter.com is back. The company even updated the status blog.

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Volkswagen Aktiengesellcraft and Suzuki Motor Corporation have reached a common understanding to establish a close term strategic partnership. A framework agreement has been signed by representatives of both companies today.

The tie-up between the two car makers will create challenges to Toyota Motor Corporation, world’s largest automaker in terms of sales, and the deal is likely to trigger further realignment in the global auto industry.

Suzuki intends to rely on Volkswagen to develop eco-friendly vehicles such as gasoline-electric hybrids and electric cars, an area in which the Japanese company is lagging behind rivals, local analyst said.

Under their agreement, Volkswagen will acquire a 19.9 percent stake in the Japanese carmaker. Suzuki will sell its share to Volkswagen for around 222.48 billion yen under a third-party allotment to be carried out from mid-January. The Japanese carmaker is also expected to buy shares in Volkswagen by spending up to half of the money received from the German automaker.

Schools were closed after the gas blast

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

An explosion happened at Manchester. Three schools remain closed after two gas explosions at a former Hospital in South Manchester.

A work man in his 40’s suffered burns to his face, hands and back in the initial blast at the old Washington Hospital site on Tuesday morning. The 40 year old man was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital where his condition was described as not life threatening.

A second blast followed about an hour later in the same area.

Manchester Council said Cavendish Primary School, The Birches Special School, Lancasterian Special School, would all be closed for pupils. It was decided that mentioned schools should be temporarily closed after the incident happened.

The Schools’ gas supply may be intermittent while investigations are carried out, but pupils are expected to return on Thursday.

Nearby properties and a nearby Police station were evacuated until the evening. However, a cordon remains in place around the old Hospital site, which is being turned into apartments. Altogether six apartments, along with the main entrance hall and ornate tower, were damaged in  the blast which occured at 9:45 am this morning.

The Health and  Safety Executive (HSE) is to investigate the cause of the blasts but it is thought a gas main may have been damaged during building work. Specialist teams from Greater Manchester Fire Service search the are using sniffer dogs in the partially collapsed building.

Rescue workers are continuing to search a block of flats partially destroyed by a gas explosion, although it is now thought unlikely that anyone is trapped inside.
