Chevron Houston Marathon registration supposed to open July 17

Friday, July 17th, 2009

The Chevron Houston Marathon registration was supposed to open on July 17, but it so far has not. A spokesman said that the registration page was not yet ready.

Excuse me, but what’s going on. How long does it possibly take for a registration page to be put up. It not someone told Chevron yesterday that the registration is going live today. Even in that case, a website with registration form could be put up.

Something smells fishy. They had ample time to prepare the page, so that excuse is so silly, its laughable.

The marathon itself is slated for 17th January 2010, and they expect to have 22,000 runners this year, compared with just 18,000 the last time.

I hope the organizers will get their act together and fix the registration page soon.

3 Cops Dead; 1 Critical After Oakland Shooting

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

A traffic stop left 3 dead officers and 1 in critical condition after a manhunt lead to a shoot out in Oakland, California last Saturday.

The first police officer died at around 1 pm when after police officers stopped the suspect’s vehicle in east Oakland.  The suspect then fled the scene on foot prompting officers to barricade streets and rope off areas as California Highway Patrol officers and Alameda County sheriff deputies searched for the suspect.

At around 3:30 pm acting on an anonymous tip, the officers found the suspect who had barricaded himself in an apartment building.

27-year-old Lovelle Mixon fired at police officers who stormed the building to arrest him.  Two more officers were killed while a third police man got grazed by a bullet.  Oakland police returned fire killing Mixon.

The three police men who died were Sgt. Mark Dunakin, 40, who was killed at the first shooting. The two members of the SWAT team who were killed at the second location were Sgt. Ervin Romans, 43, and Sgt. Daniel Sakai, 35. Officer John Hege, 41, is in critical condition.

The city is still shocked after January’s shooting of an unarmed man by a rail transit police officer.  Tensions between residents and the police have been rising ever since.

Bay Area Rapid Transit officer, Johannes Mehserl had pleaded not guilty to manslaughter for the slaying of 22 year old Oscar Grant.  Rallies and violent protest had erupted in Oakland streets weeks after Grant’s death.

At the scene of the first police shooting people were again taunting the police.  Meanwhile at the police station, the mood was somber and flags were flying at half-mast.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has issued this statement: “All four officers dedicated their lives to public safety and selflessly worked to protect the people of Oakland.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those lost, the Oakland Police Department and law enforcement officers throughout California during this difficult time.”

Bristol Palin and Fiance Splits Up

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Bristol Palin and her fiance Levi Johnston have ended their relationship says 2 sources close to the couple.

The break-up reportedly happened “a few weeks ago” and that it was a “mutual thing”.  The cause of the break-up is still not clear.

Bristol is the daughter of Alaska governor Sarah Palin.  She and Levi are parents to two month old Tripp.  Bristol has told Fox News last year that she and Levi intend to get married after they finish high school.

“It kind of just happened,” says the source, referring to the split. “I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp.”

“I’m not sure what caused [them to break up] – it’s common knowledge,” says another source who knows the family.

Levi’s father Kevin told PEOPLE recently that Levi still sees his son and that he is a “proud father” to Tripp.

Bristol, 18 is in the process of completing high school in Wasilla High and plans to take up nursing for college in the fall.  She has recently returned from Juneau for a visit with her mother.

“Bristol’s doing okay. Tripp is fine.” says the source referring to how Bristol is after the break-up.

Sarah Palin has not commented on the news.
