Marie Moore Shooting Incident!

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Just this weekend, a mother named Marie Moore, who has a history of mental instability, fatally shot her son and thereafter killed herself at a Florida shooting range.

44-year-old Marie Moore was at Shoot Straight, in Casselberry, FL, which is 20 minutes north of Orlando, on Sunday, with her son 20-year-old Mitchell. According to witnesses and a surveillance video, the two appeared to be getting along until Moore went behind her son with a rented revolved and fired a single bullet at the back of Mitchell’s head. Thereafter, she placed the gun in her mouth and pulled the trigger.

One witness said: “They were both very hyper and nervous. I was keeping an eye on them, actually, because it’s a very small location in there. I noticed both of them were very anxious with each other. She kept getting very close to him when he was firing.’ He also stated that Marie, ‘ran out just prior to that grabbed more ammunition and I watched her do that. The shooting happened right after that.”

Another witness named Bobby Davidowitz said: “When I heard a gunshot I look and I see this kid collapsing spitting up blood it took me a second to register.” Bobby and his friends noticed something wasn’t quite right before it happened. “These people are too hyper to be at the gun range she was walking back and forth,” he further stated.

Based on a police report, Mitchel’s father, Charles Moore, told the police that he believed that Marie was barred from that particular gun range by reason of a suicide attempt she had at the same location several years ago.

However, police say that they do not have any record of an incident involving Marie although they did state that Marie was once admitted to a hospital for observation under the state’s Baker Act in 2002. By reason of privacy policies, the information was not released as to the reason of admission. Also, it was reported that Marie had two DUI convictions on her record.

At the day of the incident, Marie and Mitchel had just bought a membership to the Club and the murder weapon was rented from the gun range. Although background checks were required when someone buys a firearm, this kind of check cannot be legally performed by gun range owners on people who bring with them their own guns or rent ones from the range. None from the Shoot Straight Gun Range gave out a comment.

Mitchell died on the scene while Marie died hours later at the Florida Hospital Altamonte. On Monday, the police were still trying to figure out what drove Marie to kill her son. “There was no argument or any other sign of a problem,” said Casselberry police Lt. Dennis Stewart.

Two Injured by Sign Collapse at Whitestone Bridge!

Friday, March 27th, 2009

At 1:10 p.m. Friday, it was reported that an M.T.A. construction truck struck an overhead road sign on the Queens-bound plaza of the Whitestone Bridge. Such incident caused the steel sign structure to come crashing down on all six lanes and hurting two people who were on the truck.

According to Judie Glave, the spokeswoman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Alpha Painting and Construction Company is the conractor hired by the Authority to paint the Queens side of the bridge and is the owner of the boom truck. The persons who were tasked to do the painting were the ones hurt. One had a head injury while the other had a fractured leg, and both were taken to New York Queens Hospital.

Glave further stated that the Authority’s maintenance crews are already at the area and they have to cut the metal part of the sign and remove it. “The hope is to get it open by rush hour,” she continued as she admitted that it might be difficult.

One witness named George Attwal, who was then driving his Volkswagen Passat two cars behind the truck, described t as a pickup truck, with a cranelike operator in its bed, perhaps used like a cherry-picker to fix things. “I guess he forgot to lower it and it hit the roadway sign. It collapsed right in front of us and two people fell off. They were standing in the back of the pickup. On person fell off and he rolled onto the road itself.” he further stated.

Mr. Attwal also said that the incident happened within two seconds. The car in front of him even had to slam onto his breaks so as not to collide with the other vehicle. He came out with an estimation that the truck ws going 15 to 20 miles an hour with a question on why the two people were outside the bed of the truck. Ms. Glave, on the other hand, said that she had no idea where the two passengers of the truck were at the time of the incident.

The bridge crosses the East River and connects the boroughs of Queens and Bronx. Traffic was being rerouted to the nearby Throgs Neck or the Robert F. Kennedy bridges as the Whitestone Bridge is completely shutdown in both directions.
