Twitter has been hacked

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Lately, it seems that social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook have been receiving viruses directly to its members. It was said that this Friday at 10 pm, that the Twitter site was hacked and defaced.

Twitter.com is said to be down. Some tweets are getting through at the moment because parts of the API are up. The search seems to be working. It is suggested that if you use the same password on your twitter account with other accounts, now would be a good time to change your password on those other accounts.

It was said that there is a history between Iran and Twitter. It was well noted and covered in the media that Twitter was used as a tool during the Iranian election protests. The US government actually intervened to assure that Twitter was available to the protestors in Tehran and around the country. This attack maybe an act of reprisal from groups who were not happy with the role that Twitter played during the protests.

But then, luckily that Twitter.com is back. The company even updated the status blog.

Aspiring Model Committed Suicide!

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Paul Zolezzi, an aspiring model, hanged himself in a Brooklyn Park this Friday. Authorities say that the 30-year-old man, who was struggling from heroin addiction, killed himself just hours after he made an announcement on his Facebook page that he would be taking his life.

In his Facebook page, the following message was found:

Paul Zolezzi is born in San Francisco, became a shooting star over everywhere, and ended his life in Brooklyn… And couldn’t have asked for more.

According to Stephani Zolezzi, the mother of Paul, her son had been on a downward spiral since the end of an engagement about a year ago. She stated “I would say that people get so lonely, so delusional, that all they want to do is be remembered. He probably wanted to be remembered in a big way, to do it dramatically — that’s what drugs will do to people.”

Zolezzi’s body was found hanging from a monkey bar inside Mount Prospect Park along the Eastern Parkway at 7 A.M..

Koobface Virus on the RUN!

Friday, December 5th, 2008

Koobface is a computer virus which targets social networking website Facebook users. It is one which ultimately tries, after infection becomes successful, to get together sensitive information from the victims which includes, but not limited to, credit card numbers.

Koobface is something which scatters by delivering messages of Facebook to people who are ‘friends’ of a member of facebook whose computer has been infected.

Facebook virus was first discovered into many accounts of the social network’s users in August. It worked by sending emails to user’s friends and asks them to open a site containing funny videos, and the subject line is found to be grammatically wrong or that it states “You look so funny on our video” or the like. The site looks like You Tube asking the download of Flash Player but the download is infected with virus.

And just yesterday, reports publicly informed the existence of the aforementioned virulent piece of worm spreading through Facebook which spreads fast because it travels through messages which appear to have originated from a friend. If the victim get infected, the bug has then taken control of her browser, redirecting Google search links to other search engines.

Best advices according to experts are never to open unexpected e-mail attachments so as to reduce the risk of getting infected, notwithstanding the fact that it may come from trusted sources and never to download softwares from untrusted sources.
