Dena Riley Pleads Guilty to Videotaped Killing

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Dena Riley plead guilty to the 2006 murder of 41-year-old Marsha Spicer of Independence, Missouri.  Spicer was videotaped while being sexually tortured and suffocated at an apartment Riley shared with her boyfriend.

In all, Riley plead guilty to a total of 26 charges in Spicer’s murder and on a serarate attack on Michelle Huff-Ricci of Kansas City whose remains were found in Clay county.  Riley and her boyfriend Richard Davis are charged with capital murder for Huff-Ricci’s death. Davis was convicted earlier this year for Spicer’s murder.

In a deal that allows her to avoid the death penalty, Riley was sentenced to life without parole for Huff-Ricci’s murder; and eight additional sentences, and up to 239 years in prison for 25 other charges.  She also agreed to plead guilty in Kansas on a federal charge of kidnapping a 5-year-old girl related to Davis after fleeing the Kansas City area in May 2006. Court documents said the girl had injuries consistent with sexual abuse.

KMBC’s Maria Antonia reported that Riley seemed to be weeping during the plea process. But Riley did not say anything to the families in the courtroom.
