Marie Moore Shooting Incident!

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Just this weekend, a mother named Marie Moore, who has a history of mental instability, fatally shot her son and thereafter killed herself at a Florida shooting range.

44-year-old Marie Moore was at Shoot Straight, in Casselberry, FL, which is 20 minutes north of Orlando, on Sunday, with her son 20-year-old Mitchell. According to witnesses and a surveillance video, the two appeared to be getting along until Moore went behind her son with a rented revolved and fired a single bullet at the back of Mitchell’s head. Thereafter, she placed the gun in her mouth and pulled the trigger.

One witness said: “They were both very hyper and nervous. I was keeping an eye on them, actually, because it’s a very small location in there. I noticed both of them were very anxious with each other. She kept getting very close to him when he was firing.’ He also stated that Marie, ‘ran out just prior to that grabbed more ammunition and I watched her do that. The shooting happened right after that.”

Another witness named Bobby Davidowitz said: “When I heard a gunshot I look and I see this kid collapsing spitting up blood it took me a second to register.” Bobby and his friends noticed something wasn’t quite right before it happened. “These people are too hyper to be at the gun range she was walking back and forth,” he further stated.

Based on a police report, Mitchel’s father, Charles Moore, told the police that he believed that Marie was barred from that particular gun range by reason of a suicide attempt she had at the same location several years ago.

However, police say that they do not have any record of an incident involving Marie although they did state that Marie was once admitted to a hospital for observation under the state’s Baker Act in 2002. By reason of privacy policies, the information was not released as to the reason of admission. Also, it was reported that Marie had two DUI convictions on her record.

At the day of the incident, Marie and Mitchel had just bought a membership to the Club and the murder weapon was rented from the gun range. Although background checks were required when someone buys a firearm, this kind of check cannot be legally performed by gun range owners on people who bring with them their own guns or rent ones from the range. None from the Shoot Straight Gun Range gave out a comment.

Mitchell died on the scene while Marie died hours later at the Florida Hospital Altamonte. On Monday, the police were still trying to figure out what drove Marie to kill her son. “There was no argument or any other sign of a problem,” said Casselberry police Lt. Dennis Stewart.

Stanton Heights Shooting Kills Three Police Officers!

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

Just this morning, it was reported that there were three Pittsburgh police officers who died while two others were injured after the occurrence of exchange of gunfire with a heavily-armed man. A police official said that a man opened fire when they responded to a domestic disturbance call at his family’s home in Stanton Heights.

The incident started when the officers were called to the home in the 1000 block of Fairfield street in the Stanton Heights neighborhood of Pittsburgh at about 7 a.m. as mentioned by police spokeswoman Diane Richard. Two officers died at the scene while a third officer was taken to the hospital where he later died. Another officer was shot in the hand while a fifth officer was also injured, the extent of his injuries being unknown.

According to 51-year-old Tom Moffitt, a city firefighter whose house is just two blocks away, he heard about the shooting on his scanner and came to the scene. At the scene, he heard “hundreds, just hundreds of shots and that it was not just once but several times.”

Also, one Rob Gift, 45  years old, who lives just a block away, said he heard rapid gunfire as he was letting his dog out. He said that the neighborhood of well-kept single-family houses and manicured lawns is home to many police officers, firefighters, paramedics and other city workers. “It’s just a very quiet neighborhood,” Gift said.

Another witness named Drew Stadler, who is 34 years old and lives nearby on Oglethorp Street, said that he heard loud bangs at around 8 in the morning. From his window, he saw the gunman pointing what appeared to be an automatic rifle and shooting at officers from a window over the garage of the Fairfield Street house.

On the other hand, the gunman’s friend 22-year-old Edward Perkovgic said that the former feared “the Obama gun ban that’s on the way” and that he “didn’t like their rights being infringed upon. Perkovic, saying he was the gunman’s best friend, also mentioned that he got a call at work from him in which he said “Eddie, I am going to die today… Tell your family I love them and I love you. Perkovic further said: “I heard gunshots and he hung up. … He sounded like he was in pain, like he got shot.”

In addition, another long-time friend, 23-year-old Aaron Vire, said that the gunman feared  that President Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said “he wasn’t violently against Obama. He made mention that the gunman once had an Internet talk show but it wasn’t successful. Vire further stated that his friend has an AK-47 rifle and several powerful handguns, including a .357 Magnum.

The gunman was identified as 23-year-old Richard Polawski. He surrendered to the police at around 11 in the morning which is more that three hours after the standoff began at 1016 Fairfield St. after a lengthy negotiations. According to neighbors who spoke to the gunman on the telephone, Polawski said that he was shot himself.
